Introduction
The Year 1881 was significant in the History of US Open. The desire to play competitive tennis was responsible for the forming of Tennis Clubs in the United States. The United States National Lawn Tennis Association was formed on May 21, 1881. The association was formed to organize the games and standardize the rule of the game. The first ever Tennis Tournament was held in 1881 at Newport, Rhode Island. It was called The US National Men's Singles Championship. After 6 years the first ever The US National Women's Singles Championship was held in 1887. For many years Tennis was an English speaking world’s sport. The French also loved the game. The French Open Tennis Tournament is played since 1891.

The US Open Tennis Tournaments is the fourth and last of the Grand Slam Tournaments. It is an annual feature. The Tournament is held in August and September over two week period. It is held in the weeks before the Labor Day and the weekend of the Labor Day.

In the beginning the US Open Tennis Tournaments was played on the grass courts. Then in 1975 it switched to Har-Tru clay Tennis courts. The year 1978 once again saw the change in the Tennis courts. Now the US Open is played on Deco Turf hard courts. The hard court offers less friction so the bounce of the ball is low so the players who are better at the serve and volley do well on this surface.

They have won the title for 4 times and John McEnroe with 2 different partners won the title 4 times. In the Women's Tennis Martina Navratilova has very impressive record in the US Open Tennis Tournaments. She has 16 championships to her credit.
