When a player hits a ball to another player on the other side of the net and if the other player cannot return the ball by hitting it back then points is scored. The player who manages to win four points before his opponent, he is considered to be a winner. A player wins the game if he his ahead of his opponent by the margin of two points. A player winning six games is considered to be the winner of the set.

The essential commodities required to play a tennis game are rackets, tennis balls and a good pair of sneakers. The tennis court measures 78ft in length and 27ft in width.

The surface of the tennis court may be carpet, grass, clay and hard. The tennis court is divided by a net. The white baselines on the tennis court represent the end of the court or the boundaries of the court.

Tennis can be played among two players which is called as singles or among four players called as doubles. In doubles, two players are on either side. The ball should be within the service court while playing the tennis match. The point continues when one of the players fails to return the ball or the ball gets out of the court boundaries.

The player takes a sideways stance keeping both of his feet behind the baseline. The ball is held in the left hand. The ball is released with the hand held in the upright position. The ball is then released and hit by the right hand. Then the game is played with the use of different shots such as backhand, forehand, ground stroke or eastern forehand.

The player is declared winner if he/ she wins 2 matches out of 3 or 3 matches out of 5. The player is said to be the winner of the set if he/she wins 6 games. A tiebreaker is played when the players Score equal points.

The scores in the tennis game are like 15, 30, 40 and game. If the player fails to score any point in the game then he scores a ‘love’. The players start their game with a love. The score of 40-40 is said to be a ‘deuce’. A player winning one point goes to ‘advantage’. Then the player goes to ‘game’. In the score line, the score of the server is always mentioned first.
