The Host Stadium of the French Open Tennis Tournament

Introduction

Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros or the Roland Garros tournament, French Open is the second Grand Slam Event that is held in a year. It is held between the period during mid May and early June. It is the only Grand Slam Event that features clay courts for holding the various events that are featured in the tournament. This tournament is named after a hero of World War I named Roland Garros who was a pilot. In its earlier stages French Open was only a national tournament but after 1925 it became open to international competitors. Most of the events including the main events were held at the Host Stadium of the French Open Tennis Tournament.

Host Stadium of French Open

The Host Stadium of the French Open Tennis Tournament is the Stade de Roland Garros which is located in the southwest of Paris which is situated in France. The stadium is named after Roland Garros who was a fighter pilot during World War I. This stadium was built in the year 1928. The main purpose of building this stadium was to host the rematch between France and USA in the Davis Cup which France had won in the United States of America. After the renovation work that had been undertaken on 1999 the seating capacity of the stadium was reduced to 15059. It was done so as to make more space for the ever increasing media crews. It contains the main court named as the Philippe Chatrier Court in which most of the events are held.
