The History of the French Open Tennis Tournament

Introduction

The French Open, officially called the Rolland Garros is an international tennis tournament held every year between mid May and early June in Paris, France. It is the second Grand Slam tournament in the annual tennis calendar and is played on the clay court.

Rolland Garros derives its name from the name of the Stadium which in turn was named after the World War I pilot. The essence of this Grand Slam is the use of clay courts, which slows down the ball and produces a high bounce compared to the grass courts.
