The 2005 French Open Tennis Tournament

Introduction

French Open in 1891 was only a national tournament. However, after 1925 it became open to international competitors. It is the second Grand Slam event that is held in a year after the Australian Championships. It is held over two weeks between mid May and early June in Paris which is situated in France. This tournament is named after a pilot who was a hero in the World War I. It is the only Grand Slam Tournament that features clay courts for holding the events. Due to this the participants find it quite difficult to play in these courts.

It is because these courts tend to slow down the ball pace and also add extra bounce to the ball. The 2005 French Open Tennis Tournament was one such event that was held in the red clay court of Philippe Chatrier.
