Introduction

French Open also officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros is the second Grand Slam event that is held in a year. It is held over two weeks in mid May and early June. It is also known as the Roland Garros Tournament. It is the only Grand Slam Tournament that featured clay courts. These clay courts give a great challenge to the participants as these courts tend to slower down the pace of the ball and also add an extra bounce to the ball.

 

The 2000 French Open Tennis Tournament was one such event that was held in the red clay court of Philippe Chatrier. This tournament started as a national tournament but after 1925 it became open to international competitors also.

In the Men Doubles Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge defeated Paul Haarhius and Sandon Stolle by 7-6, 6-4. In the Women Doubles category Martina Hingis and Mary Pierce won the title by defeating Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez by 6-2, 6-4. In the Mixed Doubles category Marianne de Swardt and David Adams defeated Rennae Stubbs and Todd Woodbridge by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. In the Junior Championships the Boys Singles was won by Paul-Henri Mathieu. The Girls Singles was won by Virginie Razzano. The Boys Doubles was won by Marc Lopez and Tommy Robredo and the Girls Doubles was won by Maria-Jose Martinez and Anabel Medina Garrigues.
