Introduction

Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros the French Open was also known as the Roland Garros Tournament. It is the second Grand Slam tournament that is held in a year. It is held in the period between mid May and early June in Paris which is situated in France. In its earlier stage it was only a national tournament but after 1925 it became open to the international competitors. This tournament is named after a World War I hero named Roland Garros who was a pilot. This is the only Grand Slam Event that is held in the Clay court.

The 1996 French Open Tennis Tournament featured the events of Men Singles, Women Singles, men Doubles, Women Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Junior Championships. In the Men Singles Yevgeny Kafelnikov defeated Michael Stich by 7-6, 7-5, 7-6. In the Women Singles Steffi Graff again won the title by defeating Arantxa Sanchez Vicario by 6-3, 6-7, 10-8. In the men Doubles the title was won by Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Daniel Vacek after they defeated Guy Forget and Jakob Hlasek by 6-2, 6-3. In the Women Doubles category Lindsay Davenport and Mary Joe Fernandez defeated previous year champion Gigi Fernandez and Natalia Zvereva. The score line was 6-2, 6-1. In the Mixed Doubles category Patricia Tarabini and Javier Frana defeated Nicole Arendt and Luke Jensen by straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the Junior Championships the Boys Singles was won by Alberto Marin. The Girls Singles was won by Amelie Mauresmo. The Boys Singles was won by Sebastien Grosjean and Olivier Mutis and the Girls Doubles was won by Alice Canepa and Giulia Casoni.
