Introduction

Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros, The French Open Tournament is the second Grand Slam event that is held in a year. It is held in the period between mid May and early June. It is held in Paris which is situated in France. It is also known as the Roland Garros Tournament. This tournament is named after a hero of World War I Roland Garros who was a pilot. In 1891 French Open was only a national tournament but after 1925 it became open to international competitors. It is the only Grand Slam event that is held in clay courts. These clay courts provide a great challenge to the participants as they tend to slower down the ball pace and give extra bounce.

In the Women Doubles category Gigi Fernandez and Natalia Zvereva defeated Conchita Martinez and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario by 6-3, 6-2. In the Mixed Doubles category Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Mark Woodbridge conquered the title by defeating Lori McNeil and Bryan Shelton by 6-2, 6-3. In the Junior Championship the Boys Singles was won by Andrei Pavel. The Girls Singles was won by Rossana de los Rios. The Boys Doubles was won by Enrique Abaroa and Grant Doyle and the Girls Doubles was won by Laurence Courtois and Nancy Feber. .
