The 1988 French Open Tennis Tournament

Introduction

Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros or the Roland Garros tournament, the French Open is the second Grand Slam Event that is held in a year. It is held over two weeks between mid May and early June in Paris which is situated in France. It is also the premier Clay court tennis tournament in the world. This tournament is named after a hero of World War I, Roland Garros who was a pilot. The French Open was earlier a national tournament but after 1925 it was open to the international competitors.

However in this tournament all the events are played on a clay court. This provides a great challenge to the participants as the clay courts tent to slow down the ball pace and give an extra bounce to the ball. So the strategy of playing changes. The 1988 French Open Tennis Tournament was one of the events to be held in these courts.
