The 1987 French Open Tennis Tournament

Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros or the Roland Garros Tournament, the French Open Tennis Tournament is the second Grand Slam event that is held in a year. It is also the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world. It is held over two weeks between mid May and early June in Paris which is situated in France.

Earlier French Open was only a national tournament in 1891 but later in 1925 it was opened to international competitors. The tournament was named after a hero of World War I who was a pilot.The clay courts in which

events are held provide a great challenge to the participants as the clay courts tends to slower the ball and give extra bounce to the ball. So the players have to Frenche a different game play altogether. The 1987 French Open Tennis Tournament was one of the events that were held in these courts.

The 1987 French Open Tennis Tournament featured the events of Men Singles, Women Singles, Men Doubles, Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

In the Men Singles category Ivan Lendll carried on his legacy and won the title again. He defeated top seed Mats Wilander by 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. In the Women Singles category Steffi Graff won the event by defeating Martina Navratilova. The score line was 6-4, 4-6, 8-6.

In the Men Doubles Anders Jarryd and Robert Sesugo defeated Guy Forget and Yannick Noah by 6-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. In the Women Doubles category Martina Navratilova and Andrea Temesvari carried on their legacy by winning the title again. They defeated Steffi Graff and Gabriela Sabatini by 6-1, 6-2.

In the Mixed Double Category Pam Shriver and Emilio Sanchez defeated Lori McNeil and Sherwood Stewart by 6-3, 7-6.

The 1987 French Open Tennis Tournament was a very exciting tournament. There were many top players who defended their titles and some new faces also won the titles.
