Introduction

The French Open is the second Grand Slam Tournament that is held in a year. It is held over two weeks in the mid May and early June in Paris which is situated in France. Officially known as the Tournoi de Roland Garros or the Roland Garros Tournament, the French Open was the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world. This tournament is named after a hero of World War I who was a pilot. Earlier French Open was only a national tournament in 1891.

 

But afterwards in 1925 this tournament became open to the international competitors. However the events were held in clay courts which gave a great challenge to the participants.The 1984 French Open Tennis Tournament was one of the tournaments that were held in these clay courts. In the Women Singles category Chris Evert again won the title thereby carrying on her journey to fame. She defeated Martina Navratilova by 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. In the Men Doubles category John Fitzgerald and Tomas Smid defeated Stefan Edberg and Anders Jarryd by 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 14-12. In the Women Doubles category Martina Navratilova and Andrea Temesvari defeated Steffi Graff and Gabriela Sabatini. The score line was 6-1, 6-2. The Mixed Doubles category was won by Kathy Jordan and Ken Flach after they defeated Rosalyn Fairbank and Mark Edmondson by 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.
