History Of French Open Tennis

The French Open Tennis Tournament first came into being as a national tournament in the year 1891. In the year 1925 this tournament was upgraded to include the international layers. It attained the status of Grand Slam with the advent of the open era on the year 1968. Previously French Open Tennis tournament was held on the grass court. From the 1928 Davis Cup Tournament a new court was constructed made up of clay. This new Stadium was named after a pilot from the World War I as Stade de Roland Garros. Another clay court was constructed and was called as Court Philippe Chartier. The clay court was much different than the regular grass court those days. The clay court holds the ball for a longer time and produce greater bounce.

The Tournament

The French Open Tennis Tournament is unique from the other tournaments because of the nature of the court. The surface of the court generally behaved differently than the other surfaces. Thus the French Open Tennis tournament carries forward a legacy of producing new champions. It generally does not follow the trend of other Grand Slams. Many champions from the other grand slams could not break ice with this grand slam. Some classic examples of champions who were a failure at the French Open Tennis are Pete Sampas, Lindsay Davenport, and many more.
