South Africa at the 2003 Fed Cup

South Africa made its debut in the Fed Cup in the year 1963. South Africa has won the Fed Cup title on its home ground in the year 1972. The players of South Africa at the 2003 Fed Cup were Amanda Coetzer, Liezel Huber, Jessica Steck, Chanelle Scheepers and Mariaan de Swardt.

South Africa at the 2003 Fed cup played the round robins against Romania, Denmark, Ukraine, Yugoslavia and Czech Republic. These round robins were played at the clay court of Portugal. They were placed in the Europe African Group I C.

The first Round Robin match was played against Romania on 23rd April. In these matches, South Africa defeated Romania by a score of 2-1.

The second Round Robin match was played between South Africa and Denmark. In the second set, it defeated Denmark by a score of 3-0.

On 25th, April South Africa played the third set of Round Robin matches against Ukraine. In this set, Ukraine defeated South Africa by 2-1.

On 26th, April South Africa played the Europe/Africa Zone Group I Playoffs against Yugoslavia. In the first match, C.Scheepers defeated K.Daskovic of Yugoslavia by 6-2 and 6-2. In the second match, A.Coetzer defeated J.Jankovic of Yugoslavia in sets of 7-5, 3-6 and 6-2. In the doubles match was not played. Thus, South Africa defeated Yugoslavia by 2-0 in the Playoffs

On 20th, July South Africa played the World Group, Playoff matches against Czech Republic. In this set of matches, Czech Republic defeated South Africa by a score of 4-1.
