Romania at the 2003 Fed Cup

In the year 1973 Romania made its first entry into these tournaments. The first time performance of Romania was excellent as it was placed in the world Group and reached and won the first round played against Brazil. Romania has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Fed cup tournaments for around five times.

The year 1981, it reached was the latest Fed cup quarterfinals. In the year 1999, Romania reached the World Group Playoffs. The players of Romania at the 2003 Fed Cup were Maqda Mihalache, Edina Gallovits, Raluca Sandu, Liana-Gabriela Balaci and Florenta Mihai.

Romania at the 2003 Fed cup played the round robins against South Africa, Ukraine and Denmark. These round robins were played at the Portugal clay Court.

The first Round Robin match of Romania was played against South Africa on 23rd April. In this set, South Africa defeated Romania by a score of 2-1.

On 24th, April Romania played second set of matches against Ukraine. In this second set of matches, Ukraine defeated Romania by 2-1.

The third and last set of matches of Romania was against Denmark on 26th April. In the first match, M.Mihalache of Romania defeated M.Iversen of Denmark by 6-0 and 6-2.

In the second match, E.Dyrberg of Denmark defeated E.Gallovits of Romania by 6-1 and 6-0. In the doubles match, E.Dyrberg and M.Iversen of Denmark defeated E.Gallovits and M.Mihalache of Romania by 6-7(2), 6-4 and 6-0. Thus, Denmark defeated Romania by a score of 2-1 in this set.
