Introduction

Israel participated in the Fed Cup for the first time in the year 1970. Israel at the 2003 Fed Cup entered through Europe/Africa zone group I B. The players of Israel were Tzipi Obziler, Anna Smashnova, Yevgenia Savransky, Shahar Peer and Oded Jacob.

Israel at the 2003 Fed Cup competed from Europe/Africa zone group I B. Israel had a good control over the game right from the start. Israel played the first set of Round Robin matches against Yugoslavia on 21st July. In this set Israel defeated Yugoslavia by score of 2-1.

The second set of matches of Israel was against Georgia on 23rd, April. In the second set of matches, it defeated Georgia by a score of 3-0.

Israel played the third set of Round Robin matches against Bulgaria on 24th, April. Bulgaria defeated Israel by 2-1 in this set.

Israel played the Europe/Africa Zone Group I Playoffs against Belarus. In these playoffs matches it defeated Belarus by score of 2-1.

On 20th July Israel played the matches of World Group, Playoffs against Switzerland. In the first match, P.Schnyder of Switzerland defeated T.Obziler in sets of 6-1 and 7-5. In the second match, M.Casanova of Switzerland defeated A.Smashnova of Israel by 6-3 and 6-2.

In the third match, P.Schnyder of Switzerland defeated A.Smashnova of Israel by 6-3 and 6-3. In the fourth match, T.Obziler of Israel defeated E.Gagliardi of Switzerland by 6-3 and 7-5. In the doubles match, E.Gagliardi and M.Casanova of Switzerland defeated S.Peer and T.Obziler in straight sets of 6-1 and 6-1. Therefore Switzerland defeated Israel by a score of 4-1.
