Czech Republic at the 2003 Federation Cup

The Czech Republic at the 2003 Fed Cup participated from the World Group. The first performance of the Czech Republic team in the Fed Cup took place in the very first year of the competition, in 1963. The Czech Republic team had Fed Cup titles with five wins and three of it came in consecutive years from 1983 to 1985.

The Czech team had played under different names in the competition. The players of Czech Republic were Klara Koukalova, Daja Bedanova, Eva Birnerova, Iveta Benesova and Petra Pichalova-Langrova.

The Czech Republic at the 2003 Fed Cup played two ties and the team played in the first round of the World Group against the team of USA and the round was carried out on 27th April in USA on the indoor hard surface. In the 1st Round matches, USA defeated the Czech Republic by a score of 5-0.

On 20th, July 2003 Czech Republic played matches against South Africa in the World Group playoffs. In the first match, K.Koukalova defeated N.Grandin of South Africa by 7-5 and 6-3. In the second match, A.Coetzer of South Africa defeated B.Strycova in sets of 3-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

In the third match, K.Koukalova defeated A.Coetzer of South Africa by 6-4 and 7-5. In the fourth match, B.Strycova defeated C.Scheepers of South Africa by 6-4 and 7-6(5). In the doubles match, B.Strycova and K.Koukalova of Czech Republic defeated N.Rencken ad N.Grandin in sets of 2-6, 6-4 and 6-1. Thus, Czech Republic defeated South Africa by a score of 4-1 in this round.
