Croatia at the 2003 Federation Cup

The Croatian team’s maiden performance in the competition was in the year 1992 and the team’s most successful performance took place in the 2002 competition when the team managed to enter in the quarterfinals round.

Before the 1992 competition, the team used to play from the Yugoslavian team but after that, the Croatian team participated independently in the competition. Croatia at the 2003 Fed Cup participated in the World Group. The players were Karolina Sprem, Iva Majoli, Jelena Kostanic, Darija Jurak, Matea Mezak, Silvija Talaja and Goran Prpic.

Croatia at the 2003 Fed Cup played their first tie against Russia in the 1st Round of the world group matches. In the 1st Round matches Russia defeated Croatia by a score of 4-1.

Croatia played the second set of matches in the World Group playoffs against Brazil. In the first match, S.Talaja defeated B.Colosio of Brazil by 7-6(5) and 6-3. In the second match, K.Sprem of Croatia defeated J.Cortez of Brazil by 6-1 and 6-0.

In the third match, B.Colosio of Brazil defeated K.Sprem of Croatia by 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1. In the fourth match, S.Talaja of Croatia defeated J.Cortez of Brazil by 7-5 and 6-2. In the fifth match, K.Sprem and J.Kostanic of Croatia defeated J.Cortez and B.Colosia of Bazil in straight sets of 6-2 and 6-3. Thus, Croatia defeated Brazil by a score of 4-1 in the World Group Playoffs.
