Introduction

Colombia made its debut in the Fed Cup in 1972. The Colombian team’s best performance in the competition was their place in the world group for the 2003 competition.

Colombia at the 2003 Fed Cup was playing from the World Group and their first tie was against France, the matches were held on 27th April on an indoor clay surface.

In the first match, N.Dechy of France defeated F.Zuluaga by 6-1, 6-7(7) and 6-4. In the second match, A.Mauresmo of France defeated C.Castano of Colombia.

In the third match, A.Mauresmo of France defeated F.Zuluaga of Colombia by 6-4 and 6-4. In the fourth match, N.Dechy of France defeated R.Farah of Colombia by 6-2 and 6-2.

In the doubles match, V.Razzano and E.Loit of France defeated R.Farah and C.Escamilla in straight sets of 6-1 and 6-1.

Thus, France defeated Colombia by a score of 5-0 in the 1st Round matches.

On 20th July Colombia played the World Group, Playoffs matches against Australia. F.Zuluaga of Colombia defeated S.Stosur of Australia by 4-6, 6-1 and 6-4. In the second match, A.Molik of Australia defeated C.Castano of Colombia by 7-6(6), 4-6 and 6-2.

In the third match, F.Zuluaga of Colombia defeated A.Molik of Australia by 6-2, 6-7(4) and 10-8. In the fourth match, N.Pratt of Australia defeated C.Castano by 6-3 and 7-6(3). In the doubles match, R.Stubbs and A.Molik of Australia defeated C.Castano and F.Zuluaga of Colombia by 7-6(5) and 6-2. Thus, Australia defeated Colombia by 3-2 in the Playoffs.
