Introduction

The Federation Cup was organized by the International Tennis Federation in the year 1963 on its 50th anniversary. The 2002 Federation Cup was the 40th edition of the most admired sporting event in the history of the women’s tennis. From this year onwards the Fed Cup was also following the same format of the Davis Cup. There were about 83 teams participating in this competition and Poland at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of them. Poland began its Fed Cup campaign in the year 1966 where it played against Germany in the world group. Poland’s best performance has come in the year 1992 when it reached the quarterfinals of the world group

Performance of Poland at the 2002 Federation Cup

Poland at the 2002 Federation Cup was in the Euro/African zone group I along with the teams like Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Luxembourg. Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Poland played really well but was not successful to stop Yugoslavia in the first round robin match. Yugoslavia defeated Poland by the score of 2:1. In the second round robin match against Luxembourg Poland were demolished completely as they were defeated by the score of 3:0. Then in the match against Turkey Poland bounced back with a great performance as they defeated Turkey by the score of 2:1. After this result Poland just remained in the same group I for the 2003 Fed Cup.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Poland at the 2002 Federation Cup

The overall performance of Poland at the 2002 Federation Cup was moderate as they could manage to win only one match out of three matches they played. Their performance against Luxembourg was really the worst as they were not given any chance to bounce back by the Luxembourg team.
