Panama at the 2002 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is launched first time in the tennis sport in the year 1963. From this year its familiarity spread all over the world as a prominent women international tennis championship. Panama marked its first appearance in this tournament from the 1997 Fed Cup. It was one of the teams from the Group II A of the America Zone in its very first tournament hosted by Dominican Republic on the clay-outdoor surface. Panama won two out of five round robins. Till the 2002 Fed Cup, Panama was not able to go beyond the Group II. Panama at the 2002 Federation Cup came up with a hope and expectation to progress to the promoting group.

Panama at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of the teams from the Group II A of the America Zone. Chile was its rival team in the first round robin. Here Panama was defeated by Chile with a score line of 1-2. In the second round robin, it could get a single match victory and lost against Dominican Republic with a 0-3 score line. Panama won the third round robin against Bermuda by a 2-1 score line. It was defeated by Bolivia and El Salvador with a very low score line of 0-3. With this defeat, it remained in the same group and did not get promoted or downgraded in the next Fed Cup.

Panama at the 2002 Federation Cup performed with usual lack luster efforts. It won only one round out of five rounds. Panama faced tough competition from its opponent teams and could not shoe its sagacity.
