Mexico at the 2002 Federation Cup

Mexico took active part in these federation cup tournaments for the first time in the year 1964.The Mexico team played against Czechoslovakia at the U.S.A grass court in the year 1964 from the World Group and faced a defeat under the hands Czechoslovakia. In the year 1973, Mexico reached the quarterfinals round and defeated the Austria team with a score line of 3-0 at the Mexico carpet court from the World Group Qualifying round. They reached the semifinals in the year 1992 at the Mexico clay court and defeated the Venezuela team with a score line of 3-0 but were unfortunate since they lost against Chile in the final. Mexico at the 2002 Federation cup was placed in the American Zone Group II A.

Mexico at the 2002 Federation cup played the round robins at the hard court of Mexico. The round robins were played against Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Columbia. The first round robin, Mexico defeated Bahamas with a score of 2-1.The second round robin, Mexico defeated Puerto Rico with a score of 3-0.In the third round robin, Mexico was defeated by Canada with a score of 0-3.The first round they were place in the American Group I play off round, Mexico played against Columbia and Mexico defeated Columbia with a score of 0-2.

Mexico at the 2002 Federation cup won the round robins played against Bahamas and Puerto Rico.Mexico showed a mixed performance by loosing in two rounds and winning the other two. The team players of Mexico team were Jessica Fernandez, Melissa Torresandoval, Erika Valdes, and Maria Jose Lopez Herrera and the team captain was Agustin Moareno.
