Introduction

The Federation Cup has been the most coveted tournament in the women’s category of professional tennis. It began in 1963 as a tournament between United States and Great Britain. The participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2002 championship was the 40th edition of the Federation Cup. Liechtenstein started its international tennis career in 1996. A total of 83 nations participated in the tournament. Liechtenstein at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of the average teams.

Performance of Liechtenstein at the 2002 Federation Cup

Liechtenstein at the 2002 Federation Cup was placed in the Group II of the Europe/Africa zone. In the first round robin qualifier South Africa, Liechtenstein was defeated by score of 0-3. In the next round robin clash against Algeria, Liechtenstein again was defeated by score of 0-3. The next match against Latvia was also lost by a score of 0-3. Such a kind of similar dismal performance was repeated when Liechtenstein again lost the final qualifier to Ireland by score of 0-3. Thus Liechtenstein was ousted from the 2002 Federation Cup.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Liechtenstein at the 2002 Federation Cup

Liechtenstein at the 2002 Federation Cup was placed in the Group II of the Europe/Africa zone with other nations like Algeria, Botswana, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, South Africa and Tunisia. Liechtenstein was extremely horrible with respect to its performance in this tournament. The dismal country lost all its qualifying matches to South Africa, Algeria, Latvia and Ireland by scores of 0-3 each. The fight-back as well as resistance too was extremely downtrodden, being devoid of any subsistence. Thus Liechtenstein was ousted from the 2002 championship following a miserable play.
