Introduction

Kazakhstan at the 2002 Federation Cup took part in the Federation Cup for the first time in 1995. Before this year, the players from Kazakhstan competed for the Soviet Union. In the Group I of the Asia / Oceania zone, the country has got a maximum ranking of five.

Performance of Kazakhstan at the 2002 Federation Cup

Kazakhstan at the 2002 Federation Cup took part in Group II of the Asia / Oceania Zone. The other countries in this group were Malaysia, Pacific Oceania, Singapore and Syria.

 

Kazakhstan took part in four Round Robin matches. For all the matches, the host was China and the surface was Hard – outdoor. On 5 March 2002, the match was against Pacific Oceania. Kazakhstan defeated Pacific Oceania by a score of 3-0. On 6 March 2002, the match was against Singapore. Kazakhstan defeated Singapore by a score of 3-0. On 7 March 2002, the match was against Syria. Kazakhstan defeated Syria by a score of 3-0. On 8 March 2002, the match was against Malaysia. Kazakhstan was defeated by Malaysia by a score of 1-2. Kazakhstan was promoted to Group I for the next year’s federation cup.

Kazakhstan at the 2002 Federation Cup played extremely well. Out of the four Round Robin matches, it won three matches and lost the final match. All the matches which were won were cleans sweeps of all the three matches. For its brilliant performance, Kazakhstan got a promotion to a higher group in the 2003 Federation Cup.
