Greece at the 2002 Federation Cup

During the year’s 1977 and 1984 Greece advanced to the World group. Greece made its first appearance in these tournaments in the year 1968.The youngest player in the federation Cup was Denise Panagopoulos of Greece who faced the Portugal team in the year 1977 at a very young age. Until the year 1991 Greece played under the World Group. It was from the year 1992 it started playing under the Euro/Africa/Group I B.In the year 1992 Greece played the round robins in the year 2001 at the Spain clay court and it won three out of the total four round robins played. Greece at the 2002 Federation Cup played at the Turkey clay court and there performance was satisfactory as compared to its performance in the year 2001.

Greece at the 2002 Federation cup played the round robins against Belarus, Slovenia, and Ukraine. Greece was place in the Euro/Africa Group I A. The first round robin Greece defeated Belarus with a score of 2-1.Greece was defeated by Slovenia with a score of 1-2 in the second round robin. Finally in the last round robin, Greece was defeated by the Ukraine players. The Greece was defeated in two round robins out of three totally played.

Greece at the 2002 Federation cup did not display any significant performance as they were defeated in the second and the third round robins. The Greece team players were Eleni Danilidou, Maria Pavlidou, Christina Zachariadou and Asimina Kaplani.The captain of the Greece team was George Kalovelonis.
