Germany at the 2002 Federation Cup was in the world group along with the teams like Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Rep, France, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United States. In the first round match against Russia Germany had a tough time as both the teams were performing well. But in the end it was Germany who was glorious as they defeated Russia by the score of 3:2. In the quarterfinals they had to play against Spain, in this match Spain dominated from the start and did not give a single chance to Germany to over come them. Spain defeated Germany in that match by the score of 5:0. Therefore Germany could regain their world group spot for the 2003 Fed Cup.
