Sports Of World Provides Federation Cup Tennis Information                         Sports Of World Provides Federation Tennis Information
Introduction

The 2002 Federation Cup was the 40th edition of the spectacular sporting event in the women’s tennis. There were about 83 teams which participated in this competition and Georgia at the 2002 Federation was one of them. Georgia started its Fed Cup campaign in the year 1994 and their best performance has come in their debut when they reached the quarterfinals of the zonal round. So far they have not reached the world group in this competition.

Performance of Georgia at the 2002 Federation Cup

Georgia at the 2002 Federation Cup was in the euro/African zone group I along with the teams like Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Israel, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. In the first round robin match against Estonia Georgia did play well but could not get a result in their favor as they got defeated by the score of 2:1. Same thing happened in the second round robin match against Bulgaria, Georgia were defeated in that match by the same score of 2:1. Then in the last round robin match against Portugal Georgia got what they wanted, they defeated Portugal by the score of 2:1. Therefore after having lost two matches they were able to clinch a win in the last match and that helped them as to get the same group I position for the 2003 Federation Cup.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Georgia at the 2002 Federation Cup

The over all performance of Georgia at the 2002 Federation Cup was not so good compared to their last year’s performance. In all their matches Georgia struggled a lot and only in the last match they got a victory. Last year they had won all their zonal group matches very convincingly but this year they did not perform with the same spirit. This year’s performance was really not the best for Georgia as they got the same spot in the group I for the up coming tournament.
