Introduction

France has been playing in the Federation Cup since from the 1963 tournament which was the very first tournament of this well-known women international tennis championship. In the first round of the World Group on the indoor surface hosted by Great Britain, it got its very first victory over Germany F.R. In the quarter finals, France was defeated by South Africa. It won the championship crown in the 1997 Fed Cup by defeating Netherlands with a score line of 4-1 in the finals of World Group I. Here it won three rounds and defeated Argentina with a score line of 3-2. Qualified to the quarter finals, Slovak Republic was its challenger. Here it could not stand against the challenge given by Slovak Republic and was defeated with a score line of 1-4. With this defeat, it ended its journey from the tournament and remained in the World Group for the next Fed Cup.
