Czech Republic at the 2002 Federation Cup played two ties and the first tie of the team was in the world group against the team of Croatia and the tie was played from 27 to 28 April in Croatia on the outdoor clay surface. The fight between the two teams was worth watching both the teams poured their best in the competition but the Czech team could not overcome the challenge of the Croatian team. In their first tie the Czech team could win two matches out of the five and lost three thus forcing them to play on the World Group play-offs. The Czech team thus suffered a demotion in the competition. The next tie of the Czech team was against the team of Canada and the matches were carried out in Prerov, Czech Republic on the clay court.
The tie was scheduled on 21st July and the Czech team with their innate capacity for winning the games displayed a very scintillating performance and won the tie completely by a score of 5-0 and was thus able to retain their position in the world group for the next year’s competition.
