Czech Republic at the 2002 Federation Cup was in the world group and played their ties against the team from the World Group and the team’s first tie in the Federation Cup was played in the year 1963 when the competition began. Thus the Czech team had many years’ experience of playing in the competition. The Czech team shares with Spain the winning of the most Fed Cup titles with five wins and the team had done the feat in three consecutive years from 1983 to 9185. Till the 1992 competition the Czech team played as Czechoslovakia and since the 1994 competition the team had been playing under the name of the Czech Republic.

Performance of Czech Republic at the 2002 Federation Cup

Czech Republic at the 2002 Federation Cup played two ties and the first tie of the team was in the world group against the team of Croatia and the tie was played from 27 to 28 April in Croatia on the outdoor clay surface. The fight between the two teams was worth watching both the teams poured their best in the competition but the Czech team could not overcome the challenge of the Croatian team. In their first tie the Czech team could win two matches out of the five and lost three thus forcing them to play on the World Group play-offs. The Czech team thus suffered a demotion in the competition. The next tie of the Czech team was against the team of Canada and the matches were carried out in Prerov, Czech Republic on the clay court.

The tie was scheduled on 21st July and the Czech team with their innate capacity for winning the games displayed a very scintillating performance and won the tie completely by a score of 5-0 and was thus able to retain their position in the world group for the next year’s competition.
