Cuba at the 2002 Federation Cup

Federation Cup tournaments for the women’s tennis began in the year 1963 and in the year 1991 Cuba made its first appearance in these tournaments. The year 1994 has been a very significant one for the Cuba players as it was one of its best Federation Cup because it reached the first round under the World Group of the Fed Cup. Though its performance was excellent in all the other rounds and won all of them but after reaching the first round it was defeated by the Argentina team in this 1994 tournment.The performance of Cuba in the year 2001 was excellent as it reached the final round and played and won against Costa Rica . Cuba at the 2002 Federation Cup played the round robin against five nations and won all of the round robins played.

Cuba at the 2002 Federation cup played the round robins against Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Eastern Caribbean, and Jamaica. They were placed in the American Zone Group II B.They won all the round robins played. These matches were played at the hard court of Cuba. The first round robin, Cuba defeated Trinidad and Tobago with a score of 2-1.The second round robin, Cuba defeated Guatemala with a score of 3-0.The third round robin, and Cuba defeated Costa Rica with a score of 3-0.

Cuba defeated Eastern Caribbean with a score of 3-0 in the fourth round robin. Finally Cuba defeated Jamaica with a score of 2-1 in the fifth round robin.

Cuba at the 2002 Federation cup displayed their superb talents in the tennis matches played. They won all the five round robins. They really put in 100 percent efforts. Cuba’s performance was remarkable.
