Chinese Taipei at the 2002 Federation Cup

Administered by Chinese Taipei Tennis Association, Chinese Taipei played first time in this spectacular women international tournament for the 1972 Federation Cup. It started its first tournament from the World Group. In the first round hosted by Russia on the hard-outdoor surface, it was defeated by Norway with a score line of 1-2. Moved down to Consolation Round, it lost the first round against Denmark with a score line of 0-3. It gave its best result by reaching the second round of the World Group in 1981. In the 1999 tournament, it reached the World Group Play-off. Chinese Taipei at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of the average performance teams in a pool of total 83 countries.

Chinese Taipei at the 2002 Federation Cup participated in the Group I B of the Asia/Oceania Zone. It got a wonderful feat by winning all the three matches of the first and second round robin against Thailand and Kazakhstan. It won the third round robin by a score line of 2-1 against China, P.R. In the fourth round robin, it defeated Uzbekistan with a score line of 3-0. Advanced to Group I Play-off, it was defeated by Indonesia with a score line of 1-2. However, it promoted to the Group I A for the next Fed Cup.

Chinese Taipei at the 2002 Federation Cup showed its best performance. It won four out of five rounds. It witnessed its full effort and strong confidence by defeating Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan with very high score line.
