Canada at the 2002 Federation Cup

Canadian team made its entry in these tournaments in the year 1963 and in the same year the Federation cup tournaments began. The latest Federation Cup in which Canada has advanced to the Quarterfinals was in the year 1988.In the year 1980 Canada was placed in the World Group and after being defeated by the Yugoslavia players they were demoted to the World Group Consolation Round. They won four rounds out of the total five rounds played under this WGCR. During the year 1988 Canada played from the World Group. Canada reached semifinals of the 1988 tennis tournament but had to face a defeat by the Czechoslovakia.

Canada was lucky to win the matches played against Czechoslovakia in the year 1975 and Spain in the year 1975.In the year 1981 it was defeated by the teams from France and Belgium by not winning a single match out of the total five played. Canada at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of the participants in the 36th edition of the women’s tennis tournaments.

Canada at the 2002 Federation cup played the round robins against Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Mexico and Uruguay. These matches were played at the Mexico hard court. They were placed in the American Zone Group II A. The first round robin played against Puerto Rico, Canada defeated Puerto Rico with a score of 3-0. Canada defeated the players of Bahamas with a score of 3-0 in the second round robin. Canadian players defeated Mexico in the third round robin with a score of 3-0.Finally in the First round Canada defeated Uruguay with a score of 2-0.

Canada at the 2002 Federation cup played fantastically winning all the round robins and finally the first round was also won by the Canadian players.
