Introduction

The Federation Cup has set high standards for the women’s tennis. The first tournament was held between United States and Great Britain in 1963. It is managed by the International Tennis Federation on similar lines as that of Davis Cup. The various participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2002 championship was the 40th edition of the Federation Cup. Bolivia started its international tennis career in 1991. A total of 83 nations participated in the tournament. Bolivia at the 2002 Federation Cup was one of the average teams.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Bolivia at the 2002 Federation Cup

Bolivia at the 2002 Federation Cup was placed in the Group II of the American zone with other nations like Bermuda, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Eastern Caribbean, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Bolivia displayed a mixed form by loosing a key match against Dominican Republic in the qualifiers. Bolivia although winning the remaining matches in the round robin stage, was not promoted to the World group stage. Thus a crucial loss to Dominican Republic ousted Bolivia from the 2002 tournament.
