Introduction

The Federation Cup came into international cognizance from 1963 onwards. It has served as an equivalent tournament as that of men’s Davis Cup. The participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2002 championship was the 40th edition of the Federation Cup. Bahamas started its international tennis career in 1990. A total of 83 nations participated in the tournament. Next, Bahamas again was the looser to Canada in the second round robin match by score of 0-3. The third qualifier however resulted in the Bahamas winning over Puerto Rico by 2-1 scoreline. Thus such a hazy and inconsistent performance led to the departure of Bahamas from the 2002 Federation Cup.
