Introduction

Argentina at the 2002 Federation Cup took part in the Federation Cup for the first time in 1964. The best performance of the country was in 1986 and 1993, when it reached the semi finals.

Argentina at the 2002 Federation Cup took part in the World Group. The other teams in this group were Austria, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

 

The first round match was against France. The date of the matches was 27 and 28 April 2002. The venue of the matches was Buenos Aires in Argentina and the surface was Clay – Outdoor. Argentina was defeated by France by a score of 2-3. As Argentina lost in the first round of the World Group, it had to compete with Zonal Group I qualifiers in the play-off matches. The World Group Play-off match was against Hungary. The date of the matches was 20 to 21 July 2002. The venue of the matches was Budapest in Hungary and the surface was Clay – Outdoor. Argentina defeated Hungary by a score of 5-0. Due to this win Argentina was retained in the World Group for the year 2003.

Due to this brilliant win, the country maintained its position in the World Group for the next year’s Federation Cup.
