Introduction

In the year 1984 Venezuela made its maiden appearance in the most prestigious women’s tennis- the Fed Cup. It has played a total of 18 years’ game competing in 72 ties to date. Maria Vento Kabchi made the most total wins (35-20). She made the most singles wins too. She has played the most number of ties and has played for the most number of years. Prior to 2001 Venezuela qualified for the main draw in 1984. It reached the World Group Play offs in 1988 and in 2001.Venezuela at the 2001 Federation Cup played in the America Group 1 pool B round robin.

Venezuela at the 2001 Federation Cup played four America Group 1 pool B round robin, one America Group Play off round and a World Group play off round. In the first tie against Colombia it made a 2-1 win and went on to clash with Mexico. Mexico defeated Venezuela 2-1. The next two round robin ties were against Dominican Republic and Uruguay, both of which yielded total wins 3-0. The fifth tie was an America Zone Group 1 play off. Canada lost in this tie at the hands of Venezuela 2-1. The last tie for Venezuela in 2001 Fed Cup was the World Group Play off against Croatia. The tie ended on 21 -22 July. Venezuela managed to make one match point out of the best of five tie and lost the tie. The WG play off team was led by Ricardo Omana.

It struggled with tact and skill and won the Zonal final and progressed to reach the WG play off. It could not withstand the weight of Croatia and crumbled in the WG qualifying round.
