Tunisia at the 2001 Federation Cup

Federation Cup is considered to be the most esteemed tournament wholly held for women at the international level in the tennis sport. Tunisia at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of the 90 contestants and the 2001 Fed Cup was its 10th tournament. Tunisia team marked its first tread in the 1992 Federation Cup. In its first tournament, it lost all the round robins of the Europe/Africa Group I D hosted by Greece on the clay-outdoor surface against Malta, Yugoslavia, and Latvia. In the 1995 Fed Cup, Tunisia was downgraded to the Group II A from the Group I C. It had not gone beyond the Group II till the 2001 Tournament. Its score lines depicted that it could not exhibit its tennis skills and efficiency.

Tunisia at the 2001 Federation Cup was an aspirant from the Group II D of the Europe/Africa Zone. Tunisia was miserably defeated by Lithuania, Turkey, and Moldova in the first three round robins with a very low score line of 0-3. In the fourth round robin, its challenger was Botswana. Here it won this round against Botswana with a score line of 2-1. This victory led it to promote to the Group II B in the 2002 Fed Cup.

Overall performance of Tunisia at the 2001 Federation Cup was not good. Out of 12 matches it managed win only two in four rounds. Against Lithuania, Turkey, and Moldova, it could not accept the challenge and failed to get a single match victory. Somehow it was successful to win two matches against Botswana.
