Introduction

Federation Cup is exclusively held for women at the international level and it launched first time in the year 1963. Thailand entered in this tournament for the first time from the 1976 Federation Cup. It made its first entry from the World Group Qualifying Round. In the first round hosted by Philippines on the carpet-indoor surface, Thailand was defeated by Philippines with a score line of 0-3. It was able to reach the World Group in the years 1979, 1981, and 1989 with its best performance. In the 1992 tournament, Thailand was relegated from the World Group Consolation Round to the Asia/Oceania Group I B.

 

The Thailand team is administered by Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand. Thailand at the 2001 Federation Cup took active part as an aspirant in its 26th Fed Cup.

Performance of Thailand at the 2001 Federation Cup

Thailand at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of the participants in the Group I B of the Asia/Oceania Zone. In the first and second round robins, Thailand was defeated by Chinese Taipei and China, P.R. with a score line of 0-3. It lost the third round robin against Uzbekistan by a 1-2 score line. In the fourth round robin, it dominated the entire round by winning all the three matches against Kazakhstan. Thailand managed to remain in the same group and did not get promoted or demoted for the next tournament.
