Syria at the 2001 Federation Cup

Syria at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of the 90 teams in this international women tennis tournament and the 2001 Fed Cup was its 8th tournament. Its first Federation Cup was the 1994 Fed Cup. In its first tournament, it played from the Group I A of the Asia/Oceania Zone on the clay-outdoor surface hosted by India. Syria was defeated by Philippines, Chinese Taipei, and India in the four round robins and moved down to Group II A fro the next championship. Syrian team under the control of Syrian Arab Tennis Association, failed to reach the World Group until the 2001 Fed Cup. Till the year 2001, its score cards showed that it was a poor performance team.

Syria at the 2001 Federation Cup took active part in the tournament from the Group II B of the Asia/Oceania Zone. Syria lost first three round robins by a very low score line of 0-3 against Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Philippines. In the final round of 5th to 8th Play-off of the Group II, it fought against Fiji. Here it won two out of three rounds by defeating Fiji. Syria remained in the Group II and did not get advanced or degraded for the 2002 Fed Cup

Syria at the 2001 Federation Cup could not make a noticeable progress for the promoting group. It won only one round. Against Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Philippines, it failed to exhibit its efforts. Syria was not able to get a single match victory against these countries.
