Introduction

Russia entered the Fed Cup in 1968 and played a total of 107 ties in 31 years. Larisa Savchenko made the total number of total wins. She won the most number of singles ties and doubles ties and she is part of the best doubles team along with Natalia Zvereva. She also is the proud player who played in the Fed Cup for the most number of years and played most number of ties. Russia won the Fed Cup twice, in 2004 and in 2005 in Moscow and Paris respectively defeating France. It had lost four Fed Cup finals prior to 2004. Russia at the 2001 Federation Cup played in the World Group and lost the final tie.

Russia at the 2001 Federation Cup played a total of five ties, won four and lost the Cup against Belgium. The first tie for Russia in the 2001 Fed Cup was a World Group play off round against Slovak Republic. Russia won the tie and promoted to play in the World Group round robin ties in the pool A. It faced Czech Republic in the pool A round robin and won the tie 2-1. In the next tie Argentina fell at the hands of Russia. Russia made a total win 3-0. In the last round robin of World Group pool A Russia defeated France 2-1. The last tie was the World Group first round. In this it lost to Belgium the tie, winning one match.
