Introduction

Morocco at the 2001 Federation Cup competed from the Group II of the Europe/Africa zone and the team’s debut at the competition was in 1966 but the team then had not participated till the 1995 competition. The Moroccan team’s most successful performance came in the 1999 competition when the team had won their group and was promoted to the Group I of their zone.

Morocco at the 2001 Federation Cup began their performance on 15th May and played their last tie on 17th May in Turkey on the outdoor clay surface. The Moroccan team had to play three Round Robin ties and the first tie was schedule against the team of Algeria but the weak team of Algeria got their opponents down and the Moroccan team lost the round by 1-2 thus the very beginning of the team was not good enough. In the second round the Moroccan team met with the team of Finland and it was not a very easy team to take on for the Moroccans. The teams had to fight neck to neck in the round but eventually the Moroccan team lost the round by a score of 1-2 again. The Moroccan team then played in their third tie and it was against the team of Portugal and the team had to win the round at any cost. The third tie of the Moroccan team was again a very tough one both the teams had a close competition but in the end it was the Moroccan team who lost the round by the same score of 1-2. The Moroccan team’s defeat in the three ties held them back from entering in the next group of their zone.
