Luxembourg at the 2001 Federation Cup

Luxembourg at the 2001 Federation Cup took part in the Federation Cup for the first time in 1972. The country reached the round of sixteen in 1973 and 1979. In the 2000 edition, the country played in four Round Robin matches and won three of them.

Luxembourg at the 2001 Federation Cup took part in Group I of the Europe / Africa Zone. The other countries in this group were Belarus, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Luxembourg played in four Round Robin matches. For all the matches, the surface was Clay – Outdoor. On 24 April 2001, the match was against Denmark. Luxembourg was defeated by Denmark by a score of 1-2. On 25 April 2001, the match was against Greece. Luxembourg was defeated by Greece by a score of 1-2. On 26 April 2001, the match was against Israel. Luxembourg was defeated by Israel by a score of 1-2. On 27 April 2001, the match was against Bulgaria. Luxembourg defeated Bulgaria by a score of 2-1.

Luxembourg at the 2001 Federation Cup put up a very shoddy and dismal show. Out of the four Round Robin matches, it lost three matches and won only one match. Interestingly, all the matches had the score of 2-1. Considering that the country was associated with the Federation Cup for a very long time, the performance was very sub-standard and disappointing. The team was simply not capitalizing on the previous experiences. The outcome indicated that some alteration in the strategy was desirable to witness an elevation in the tennis standard.
