Lithuania at the 2001 Federation Cup

Lithuania at the 2001 Federation Cup took part in the Federation Cup for the first time in 1992. Before this year, the players from Lithuania played for the Soviet Union. In the 2000 edition, the country played five Round Robin matches and won three of them.

Lithuania at the 2001 Federation Cup took part in Group II of the Europe / Africa Zone. The other countries in this group were Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Ireland, Kenya, Latvia, Lesotho, Malta, Moldova, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey. Lithuania played four Round Robin matches. For all the matches, the host was Turkey and the surface was Clay – Outdoor. On 14 May 2001, the match was against Tunisia. Lithuania defeated Tunisia by a score of 3-0. On 15 May 2001, the match was against Botswana. Lithuania defeated Botswana by a score of 3-0. On 17 May 2001, the match was against Turkey. Lithuania was defeated by Turkey by a score of 1-2. On 18 May 2001, the match was against Moldova. Lithuania defeated Moldova by a score of 3-0.

Lithuania at the 2001 Federation Cup displayed a good performance. Out of the four Round Robin matches, it won three matches. All in all the matches that were won, there was a clean sweep of all the three matches. Thus, the overall scenario was impressive for Lithuania. In over a period of a decade of participation in the Federation Cup, the country had achieved a good record in the game. There was a need of capitalizing on the previous experiences.
