Korea at the 2001 Federation Cup

The 2001 Federation Cup was the 39th edition of the most famous sporting event in the women’s tennis. There were about 90 teams that took part in this competition and Korea, Rep at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of them. Korea began its Fed Cup campaign since 1973 and its best performance has been in the year 1992 when they reached the world group second round after convincingly wining its zonal round matches.

Korea, Rep at the 2001 Federation Cup was in the Asia/Oceania group I along with the teams like China, Chinese Taipei, India, Kazakhstan, Thailand, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. Korea played really well in the first round robin match against New Zealand as they defeated New Zealand by the score of 2:1. In the next match against Indonesia Korea were defeated even after showing a great display Korea lost by the score of 2:1. In the match against Pacific Oceania Korea had no such problems as it was very easy for Korea to defeat them by the score of 3:0. In the last round robin match against India Korea again had a tough time as they went on to loose the match by the score of 2:1. As a result of this performance Korea were stationed in the same group I for the 2002 Fed Cup.

The overall performance of Korea, Rep at the 2001 Federation Cup was satisfactory enough as to gain the same position in the group I for the next year’s competition. Korea won two matches out of four matches they played. This was not a good performance but still they were not relegated instead they were given the same spot in the group I.
