Ireland at the 2001 Federation Cup

The 2001 Federation Cup was the 39th edition of the most fabulous sporting events in the women’s tennis. There were about 90 teams which took part in this competition and Ireland at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of them. Ireland first played in this competition in the year 1964 and its best performance has come in the year 1972 when they reached the second round of the world group.

Ireland at the 2001 Federation Cup was in the Euro/African zone group II along with the teams like Algeria, Armenia, Botswana, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Kenya>, Latvia, Lesotho, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey. In the first round robin match against Latvia Ireland played well but could not carry on with that performance as Latvia produced better moves to capture the match by the score of 2:1. In the second round robin match against Malta Ireland had a same problem but any how they managed to over come that problem. Ireland had its first win in this competition as they defeated Malta by the score of 2:1. Then in the match against Georgia, Ireland had a harsh time as they were not able to win a single game in that whole match. Ireland was defeated with ease as the score read 3:0 in favor of Georgia. Therefore after losing two matches out of three Ireland got the least position in the same group II for the 2002 Fed Cup.

The overall performance of Ireland at the 2001 Federation Cup was awful because of their dismal presentation. Not even a single match for Ireland was easy as they had a hard time in all the matches they played.
