Performance of Indonesia at the 2001 Federation Cup
Indonesia at the 2001 Federation Cup was in the Asia/Oceania group I along with the teams like India, China, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania, South Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan. Indonesia had a great start in this competition as they dominated the first two round robins match against Pacific Oceania and New Zealand. Indonesia defeated both the teams with ease by the same score of 3:0. In the next round robin match they played against Korea, in this match Indonesia lost the first game but came up hard on Koreans to defeat them by 2:1. Then in the last round robin match Indonesia had no problems in defeating India as they played really well to win the match by 3:0. In the finals of the zonal round they defeated Chinese Taipei, although they had a tough time in that match Indonesia over came all those tensions to win that match as well. Indonesia won the match by the score of 2:1. As a result f wining all the matches in the zonal round they had to play in the world group play-off match against Austria. Both the teams played brilliantly but in the end it was Austria who went on to win the match by 3:2. This ended Indonesia’s beautiful presentation of tennis in its zonal rounds and thus they remained in the same group for the 2002 Fed Cup.
Here’s a summary of the performance of Indonesia at the 2001 Federation Cup
The overall performance of Indonesia at the 2001 Federation Cup was fantastic but in the play-off match against Austria they were defeated and that is the reason they did not qualify for the world group.
