Guatemala at the 2001 Federation Cup

Guatemala for the first time contested in these federation cup tournaments in the year 1982.They played the round robins at the Mexico clay court and were placed in American Group B in its first year. Guatemala at the 2001 Federation cup were advanced to the finals and won the final match played against Bermuda. Guatemala played the other rounds along with the teams from El Salvador, Cuba, Barbados, Bermuda and Chile. These matches were played at the hard court of St John’s Ant. The team players of Guatemala were KarenSaravia, Mariola Prsdo, Luisa Elfride Lopez, and Lucia Henkle Gomez.

Guatemala at the 2001 Federation Cup was placed in the American/Group II D.Guatemala played the opening match against El Salvador. The first round robin which Guatemala played against El Salvador, Guatemala defeated El Salvador with a marginal score of 2-1. Cuba defeated Guatemala in the second round robin with a score of 0-3.Barbados was defeated by the Guatemala players in the third round robin with a score of 3-0.Guatemal advanced to the first round where it was placed in the American Group II 5th to 8th play off round and it was defeated by the Chile players with a marginal score of 1-2.Guatemala reached the final and it displayed its tennis skills by defeating Bermuda with a score of 3-0.

Guatemala at the 2001 Federation cup was defeated by the Cuba in the second round robin and by Chile in the first round. There performance was excellent in the final match played against Bermuda, as they won all the matches played against Bermuda.
