Sports Of World Provides Federation Cup Tennis Information                         Sports Of World Provides Federation Tennis Information
Introduction

Federation Cup began in the year 1963 to mark the 50th anniversary of ITF (International Tennis Federation) . Germany has been participating in Fed Cup since 1963 and has made its appearance in all the editions of the tournament. Germany Fed Cup team is administered by Deutscher Tennis Bund. Germany has bagged two Fed Cup titles to date. They clinched their first ever title in the year 1987 defeating United States 2-1 at Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver, Canada. Germany has finished as runner ups on four occasions. The 2001 Fed Cup was the 39th edition of the tournament. Germany at the 2001 Fed Cup suffered a bitter experience.

Performance of Germany at the 2001 Federation Cup

Germany at the 2001 Federation Cup participated in the tournament from World Group and was place in pool B along with the other legends like Australia, Belgium and Spain. Germany suffered a major setback early in the tournament when Argentina executed a ruthless 4-1 victory over them in the World Group Play off round. Germany met Belgium in the World Group first round robin tie. Belgium upset Germany by 3-0. Germany came back to wining ways to beat Australia 3-0 in the second round robin tie. Then they faced Spain in the last round robin tie. German defense gave in before Spanish aggressive attack. Spain carved out a 2-1 victory over them.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Germany at the 2001 Federation Cup

Germany at the 2001 Federation Cup could not perform as per their calibre. Out of 4 ties they played, they could register victory in only one tie. German attack lacked speed and power. They could have made up for lack of power and speed with accuracy and athleticism but to no avail. The only satisfactory thing for Germany was that they could retain the World Group in 2002 Fed Cup.
