Czech Republic at the 2001 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is known to be one of the most successful competitions in the women’s tennis. This tournament originated in 1963 when the ITF agreed to hold a women’s competition on the request from Mary Hare of United States. Unlike Davis Cup Federation Cup is also governed by the ITF. The 2001 Federation Cup was the 39th edition of the most important competition in the women’s tennis. There were about 90 teams taking part in this competition and Czech Republic at the 2001 Federation Cup was one of them. Czech Republic participated in this competition on the day this tournament was introduced that is 1963.

Till date their best performance has come in the year 1975 when they won the title for the first time, they defeated Australia by 3:0. It played as Czechoslovakia till 1992 there after as Czech and Slovak republic in 1993 and since 1994 it is Czech Republic.

Czech Republic at the 2001 Federation Cup was in the world group Pool A along with the teams like Argentina, France and Russia. In the first match against Russia Czechs were defeated even after showing a good display, the score was 2:1 in favor of Russia. In the next match against France Czechs were totally out played as they lost the match by the score of 3:0. Then in the last match against Argentina, Czechs were again defeated as they did not look to be well prepared. And there fore after this sober performance Czechs were demoted to the world group qualifying round for the 2002 Fed Cup.

The overall performance of Czech Republic at the 2001 Federation Cup was not the best as they lost all their matches. As a result they were sent to the world group qualifying round for the up coming tournament.
