The Federation Cup is the most awaited and globally acclaimed event in the world of sports. The Federation Cup is equivalent to the Davis Cup and is administered by the International Tennis Federation. Alike Davis Cup, the World group is the toughest group consisting of the best teams in the tournament. In 2001 Federation Cup, the World group was split into two pools consisting of eight nations in each pool. The final was played between the winners from these two groups. Costa Rica at the 2001 Federation Cup registered through American zone group II C. The matches were hosted by Antarctica on the hard-outdoor surface.

Costa Rica went through the robin rounds and thrashed every team to the ground. Bermuda, Antiqua & Barbuda and Panama could not with stand against Costa Rica and lost the battle by a plain 3-0 score. However, Costa Rica failed to retrieve any victories in their play off rounds. Costa Rica lost both the play off rounds to Bahamas and Cuba with a score of 1-2 and 0-2 respectively.

Costa Rica at the 2001 Federation Cup started the tournament with lots of wins but failed in the later part of the event. Costa Rica displayed an outstanding performance in their robin rounds defeating every team by 3-0 score line. However, they failed to carry the winning rhythm in the play off rounds and got defeated from the opponent teams.
