China at the 2001 Federation Cup

In the twentieth century the Federation Cup has emerged as one of the most popular and premier global women tennis events. It has explored the tennis talents the world over. It was launched by the International Tennis Federation, in the year 1963, which coincides its 50th inaugural year. The iconic Hazel Wightman exists as its initiator who thought of independent women tennis tournaments. Subsequent to Hazel, Nell Hopman and Mary Hare chased it to bring Hazel’s dream in reality, although it took 40 years to shape up the tournament.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF), underscored the great research work done by Hare, which gathered positive responses and recommendations throughout the world. During commencing year there was participation of 16 nations, rising up 73 teams by the year 1976. The name Federation Cup was modified to Fed Cup in 1995. The Federation Cup has witnessed the legendary players like Lesley Turner, Darlene Hard, Margaret Smith and Billie Jean King, on its corridors, who toned the Grand Slams. China PR made its first appearance in the year 1981. China PR at the 2001 Federation Cup remains in Group I, Asia/Oceania Zone.

China PR at the 2001 Federation Cup enrolled from Group I, Asia/Oceania Zone. China carried through in the first three pool game round robins opposite Kazakhstan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. China PR gave no chance to opponents to overpower them and defeated all of them by 3-0. In the last round however it lost its nerves opposite Chinese Taipei, in which China PR got a beating by them with 2-1 score.

China PR at the 2001 Federation Cup was entered through Asia/Oceania Group I. China played one of its brilliant tournaments. In the pool robin rounds that were set forth for China PR, it defeated in a row with skilled volleys three teams successively of Kazakhstan, Thailand and Uzbekistan by 3-0. However, it lost the only pool round robin opposite Chinese Taipei by 1-2.
